OUR STORY

Edwin Barkey Construction Limited was established in 1969 when Edwin started his career as a masonry contractor.  

In a few short years, he grew the business to include general contracting and land development, first in Cannington, and then Fenelon Falls. The subdivision in Cannington, Beaver Ridge Estates, would continue to grow, eventually realizing three completed phases spanning over 30 years. During the ensuing years, the subdivisions and many other work sites would become a training ground for many valued employees, tradesmen, and a young boy who would follow in his father's footsteps, as well as becoming homes for many local families. The custom homes, commercial projects, churches, like Fair Havens Community Church and Beacan Presbyterian Church, stand today as trademarks of a quality builder.

 

In 1995, David joined his father, Edwin, in the construction business, fulfilling a lifetime dream to work together. David's experience, in the municipal housing sector with Halton Non-Profit Housing, brought a fresh knowledge of design and project management. They continued to complete many projects, from commercial projects and church buildings to custom homes and renovations - each bringing complementary strengths to Barkey Construction.

In 2011, as Edwin started to phase out of daily operations of the company, David stepped into the role of leading the company forward.

On October 24th, 2018, Edwin went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Family, friends, and colleagues celebrate the legacy of faith and hard work that Edwin inspired throughout his life.  

 

As we look to the future, Barkey Construction continues to build with the same high quality and excellent workmanship that was instilled by its founder, Edwin Barkey.
